Don’t think, implement : standards, accessibility, best practices
So it is around 3 weeks late but finally the first version of the Volume4.com website is live. This is the first part of the case study and this version of the site is coded in HTML only, there is no CSS, no JavaScript.
One of the reasons there was the delay in the initial launch is the fact that I did not think about the fact that with this version I will also have to lay the groundwork for all of the back-end stuff. So while the front-end is HTML only everything in set-up in the back-end.
The main goal with this release was to release a version that is as close to the functionality that will beĀ provided once all the steps has been completed as possible. Well, other then the feed from our various blogs, I have been able to get every other aspect to function. One thing I do not like about the current version is the portfolio page.
Instead of listing all of the items on one page I would have wanted to use a paging soluion to show only five or so at a time. Having chosen Ruby on Rails as my development environment I was unsure of how to acheive this without JavaScript, so I left it as is.
I am not going to expand to much about what I have done and why I made the decisions I did instead, I am inviting comment from everyone to tell me where I have gone wrong or where I could have done better.
The next version of the site, that will be the CSS layer, should be up within a week but, as with the original, expect possible delays.
