Jens Meiert put up a web page at CodeResonsibly to get some keywords and phrases into the heads of developers and designers who currently still ignore the importance of standards and accessibility. We are all responsible for the work we put out onto the Internet. I know, sometimes clients think they know better then you but, this is probably the time you have to step back and say: I code responsibly and point them to the website and explain why following standards is a good idea.

Some of the items Jens touches on are:

  • Focus on learning.
  • Focus on accessibility.
  • Focus on performance.
  • Focus on semantics.
  • Focus on validation.

I believe strongly in these points and the rest that is mentioned on CodeResposibly. I am proud to put my voice behind the initiative and urge everyone to support and expand on Jens’s 10 points. We as web developers and designers need to take pride in our work and let our clients know that we have the success of their online business as our first priority.
